Mythology
This piece draws from the mythology of Medusa, not as a monster, but as a symbol of power, transformation, and quiet sorrow. I wanted to move away from the literal and into something more emotional. The figure exists between strength and stillness. Her eyes are blank and otherworldly, suggesting both protection and detachment, while the dark streaks beneath them hint at grief, memory, or the weight of being misunderstood.
Rendered in grayscale, the work leans into contrast and softness at the same time. The smooth, sculptural skin feels almost stone-like, while the flowing forms around her suggest serpentine movement without directly showing it. I was interested in that tension between motion and paralysis, beauty and danger, myth and feeling.
For me, this version of Medusa is not about fear. It is about reclaiming presence. She does not turn others to stone. She is the stillness, the gaze you cannot quite look away from.
